Guangzhou, China is considered to be the venue of the second World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults. INTERKULTUR-President Günter Titsch and Lu Zhigiang, director of the cultural office of the city of Guangzhou, signed a corresponding declaration of intent.
High-ranking representatives of China’s politics and culture attended the ceremony on May 11, 2010. Titsch represented the partner from Germany. Among the guests was Wei Dung, Head of the department of Arts in the Chinese Ministry of Culture. The ceremony was part of the 9th China Arts Festival. The 1st World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults will take place in Graz, Austria in 2011. The event is organised by INTERKULTUR in partnership with the city of Graz and the Austrian State of Styria.
Titsch was very impressed by the cultural variety of the big Arts Festival. The event and its organizers’ high level of professionalism created “excellent and promising cultural resources”. The best conditions were given to lead the 2nd World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults to a success. He stressed that Guangzhou, as a worldwide renowned and powerful city of economy, provided an “ideal soil” for a cultural exchange in an international context and its development.
Since 1987 the China Arts Festival has been presenting developments and innovations in culture and art. It is playing a central role in China's cultural life. The event in Guangzhou could be the third international major event of INTERKULTUR held in China. After the World Choir Games (WCG) in Xiamen in the year 2006, the 6th WCG will take place in Shaoxing from July 15 to 26, 2010. From July 10 to 17, 2011, the 1st World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults will take place in Graz, Austria.
