World Choir Games Champion special guest in Wernigerode

Celebration concert with ensemble amarcord on July 6, 2017

Johannes Brahms Int. Choir Festival & Competition

At the first World Choir Games in Linz 2000 they performed in front of the jury and won the Champion’s title in the “Male Vocal Ensembles” category at a canter. Since then they’ve been awarded several times and are among the leading vocal ensembles in the world. They are the special guest at the anniversary event of the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition: vocal ensemble amarcord from Leipzig, Germany.

The five singers will perform in a festive celebration concert on July 6 in the Sylvestrikirche presenting the whole range of their skills. Amacord’s multifaceted and widespread repertoire includes chants of the Middle Ages, madrigals and Renaissance masses, composition and musical cycles from the European Romantic and the 20th century as well as a cappella arrangements of globally collected folk songs and famous Soul and Jazz pieces. Their signature features are a unique sound, breathtaking homogeneity, a musically stylistic assurance and loads of charm and humor.

Many award-winning recordings impressively document the repertoire in all its facets. In 2012 their recording of “Das Leben bringt groß’ Freud” was awarded the ECHO Classic in the “Ensemble of the Year/vocal” category. Their most recent album bearing the simple and meaningful title “Schubert” was published on November 11.

The Int. Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition will be held for the 10th time in 2017. The anniversary event already promises choral music at its best. Along with amarcord, for example, one of the world’s best girls’ choirs will travel to Wernigerode, the Stellenberg Girls’ Choir from South Africa.

Early Bird Registration ends on December 5, 2016. All information about the event and participation can be found here.
