The best choirs united in Berlin

Berlin Radio Choir will perform together with the Grand Prix Winners and Workshop Participants

Grand Prix of Nations

In about three weeks, from February 1 to 5, the metropolis of Berlin will host 30 outstanding choirs from 15 different nations, which will compete in the Grand Prix of Nations Berlin 2017 affiliated to the “Fest der ChorKulturen”.

In addition to a first-class Opening Concert with the renowned Berlin Radio Choir and selected top choirs from the international choral scene as well as many exciting Competitions, Gala and Friendship Concerts in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berliner Philharmonie and the St. Matthäus Church, the following Awards Ceremony and the Closing Concert on February 4 will be the artistic highlight of the choral festival.

In the concert’s first part at 5 pm in the Chamber Music Hall of the Berliner Philharmonie, the winners of the competition categories "Youth Choirs – equal and mixed voices" and "Musica Sacra" will perform together with 130 attendees of the Sing Along Workshop with the Berlin Radio Choir under the direction of conductor Nicolas Fink. The program will include Josef Gabriel Rheinberger's Mass E flat major op. 109 as well as the Motets for choir a cappella by Heinrich Schütz.

In addition to Arnold Schoenberg's "Friede auf Erden" op. 13 for choir a cappella, presented by the Berlin Radio Choir in the second concert part at 8 pm, the laureates of the categories "Children’s Choirs", "Chamber Choirs / Vocal Ensembles", "Mixed, Female and Male Choirs", “Musica Contemporanea” and “Folklore" will once again make their award-winning voices sound. The winners of the respective categories will be announced in the Awards Ceremony at 2 pm before the Closing Concert.

Between the two concert parts a musical intermission featuring an interview of the Artistic Committee and a Friendship Concert is being planned in the foyer of the Berliner Philharmonie.
