Sing'n'Joy Provo

On the occasion of the choral festival Sing'n'Joy Provo 2016 INTERKULTUR offers all participating singers the possibility to join a famous and traditional U.S. radio and TV show of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir live: "Music and the Spoken Word". After the TV show the Mormon Tabernacle Choir  will perform a piece of Antonín Dvořák together with the choirs of Sing'n'Joy Provo.

Music and the Spoken Word

Since 86 years the Mormon Tabernacle Choir presents the program "Music and the Spoken Word", which is being broadcasted weekly via radio, TV and Internet. The show is transmitted from the Salt Lake Tabernacle in Salt Lake City, a building owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The performances sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir are characterized by hope, inspiration and the power of faith. These aspects are also being picked up in spoken lectures so that "Music and the Spoken Word" is also looked upon as a mass.  The choir is being accompanied by the Salt Lake Tabernacle organ or the Orchestra at Temple Square.

"Music and the Spoken Word" was transmitted on the radio for the first time in 1929. Until today more than 4.000 broadcasts followed. Since 1962 this format is available via TV and since the millennium via internet and it enjoys an increasing and inspired audience. The website of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir offers choral music lovers from all over the world the chance to stream the broadcast and be present in Salt Lake City live.

This tradition for decades makes this format one of the most continuous and successful radio programs of the country. Therefore "Music and the Spoken Word" was added to the National Association of Broadcasters Radio Hall of Fame in 2004 as well as to the National Radio Hall of Fame in 2010.
