Prelude on the Sunny Island

The choral fall 2016 starts in Grado

Isola del Sole

The “Sunny Island” Grado will live up to its name in these days. Jolly weather is welcoming singers from 15 nations to the international choir competition in the city in Northern Italy. All of them will present themselves for the first time to local residents and tourists with a colorful parade through the city’s narrow streets, including traditional singing and costumes.

Afterwards roughly 700 participants will gather at Palazzo dei Congressi to join the official Opening Concert and listen for the first time to international choral music that will enchant the whole city of Grado during the upcoming days.

An “Italian Song Medley” will suffuse the choirs on stage an in the audience with the Italian lust for life and will get them in the mood for their stay in “Bella Italia”. The Artistic Director of the event, Johan Rooze (Netherlands) specially arranged the medley to fill the concert hall with the most popular Italian songs: From “Azzurro”, “La donna è mobile” and “Volare” to “O Sole Mio” – there will be as much Italy as it can tonight!

Following today’s Opening Concert the choirs will give proof of their skills in competitions and Friendship Concerts starting tomorrow and lasting until Saturday. The Grand Prize Competition and Awards Ceremony on Saturday evening in the Palazzo dei Congressi will draw this first event in the INTERKULTUR choral fall 2016 to an atmospheric close and will be the prelude to the next events in CorfuCalella, Chiang Mai and Monterey.
