For the 10th time already choirs from all over the world are meeting in Wernigerode again, in the “colorful city in the Harz region”. By signing the contract on March 21 the partners confirmed their successful cooperation traditionally: Wernigerode Mayor Peter Gaffert, Steffen Meinecke, CEO of the long-term main sponsor Stadtwerke Wernigerode and the festivals’s Artistic Directors Prof. Dr. Ralf Eisenbeiß (INTERKULTUR) and Peter Habermann (Wernigerode) were proud of almost 20 years of successful collaboration and look forward to the jubilee event’s many highlights in July.

“The Brahms Choir Festival is one of INTEKULTUR’s most beautiful events,” emphasized Ralf Eisenbeiß. In recent years the event has established as a renowned competition and atmospheric festival in the choral world. 347 choirs from 51 nations participated here since the festival’s premiere in 1999; a total of 12 500 singers, whose performances were evaluated by 66 jurors from 22 countries. The jubilee event in July will add 28 more choirs from 14 nations – according to the current number of registrations.

The participation of the Rundfunk-Jugendchor Wernigerode was another important topic at the press talk that took place in the course of the contract signing. The singers will perform on July 7 at the Charity Concert in the Halberstadt Cathedral. Mayor Peter Gaffert: “We’re very happy that after some time the choir will join the festival as a representative of the city again.” Conductor Peter Habermann praised the student’s commitment and was proud to add: “The students from the Rundfunk-Jugendchor Wernigerode will interrupt their summer holidays just to be part of the festival.”

Steffen Meinecke (Stadtwerke Wernigerode), representative of the festival’s main sponsor, can’t imagine the city’s event calendar without this specific event anymore: “We wish that the festival remains a tradition in our city and are glad to keep on supporting it.”
