INTERKULTUR presents the participating choirs of the World Choir Games 2016

Choir Spotlight

Not long to wait now – the biggest choir festival will bring the Winter Olympic City of 2014 to sound. In order to shorten the waiting time INTERKULTUR wants to introduce the choirs, which will attend the Olympics of choral music. The following choir will travel from Xiamen/China to Sochi, to compete in the category "Mixed Chamber Choirs".

The choir "Sounds of Egret Island Teacher's Chorus" was founded in 1998 and is under the patronage of the Xiamen Department of Education. 80 teachers from various schools in Xiamen and its surrounding regularly gather in choral rehearsals in order to sing together. Lin Peirong, member of the teaching researchers of the Education and Science Research Institute, is the choir's artistic director and permanent conductor. Wang Yaqin, one of the senior music teachers and disciplinary leaders in the province Fujian, is the deputy director of the choir and leads the vocal training for the singers.

The choir has made great efforts in order to enrich the members' cultural life, to show the teachers' musicianship and to promote the development of musical education in Xiamen. In recent years, the singers have actively participated in public performances and won numerous prizes and a great recognition for the Education System in Xiamen. Their commitment is evidenced by the music pedagogical project "Singing of Haixi, reaching the world", which aims to spread the music culture into the world with the help of music and to make this culture accessible to the people.

We are delighted to celebrate the international festival of choral music together with the "Sounds of Egret Island Teacher's Chorus".
