Germany – 12 points in Riga?

The Jazzchor Freiburg represents Germany at European choir competition

European Choir Games 2017

Eurovision Song Contest (ESC), The Choir, The Voice of Germany and many more - numerous TV stations have come across the fascination of singing competitions and thus attract a rising number of music lovers of all ages to concert halls and screens. The „Eurovision Choir of the Year“ contest of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which also organizes the ESC, is the latest „newcomer“ within this range: Nine European top choirs will compete on July 22nd, 2017 at the Arena Riga. The Jazzchor Freiburg will be one of the ensembles to enter the competition and represent Germany. They will face a critical jury of experts consisting of the British composer John Rutter, the Swiss conductor Nicolas Fink and the Latvian mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča.

The internationally experienced choir, which completed numerous concerts and tours at home and abroad, including e.g. China, Japan and Korea, and cooperated with many soloists and orchestras will enter the stage with its conductor and founder Bertrand Gröger and face top choirs from Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Slovenia and Wales.

But the Jazzchor Freiburg is a promising participant of the competition: Its rhythmic precision, its secure intonation, the enormous dynamic spectrum and the overwhelming energy which enthral their audiences all over the world again and again are the main reasons which make up the success of the Jazzchor Freiburg. In Riga the singers will be supported by Julian Knörzer‘s beatboxing: Virtuosic, of sublime musicality and multi-faceted.

The trip to the Baltic metropolis was only possible for the choir due to generous donations, especially of the German Embassy in Riga and the city of Freiburg.
