World Choir Games 2016

At yesterday’s Closing Ceremony in the Bolshoy Ice Dome choirs, the jury and team members from all nations gathered for the festive closing of the spectacular 9th World Choir Games. With a fulminant show, traditional choral music and dances from Russia the host city Sochi said goodbye to its international guests.

“Those were the best World Choir Games ever.” With great gratitude to the host city of Sochi and satisfaction on the successful 11 days full choral music INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch declared the 9th World Choir Games in 2016 closed.

The Olympic bell sounded five times, each ring for one continent. With the end of the 9th World Choir Games the World Choir Games flag were handed over from the Mayor of Sochi, Anatoly Pakhomov, and Günter Titsch to Lindiwe Kwele, the deputy mayor of the city of Tshwane. In 2018 the 10th World Choir Games will take place in South Africa, the land in which singing belongs to the traditions. Choirs from all over the world are warmly invited to bring the little part of Africa in each of us to life, said Kwele.

After the handover of the flag the Festival Stage Choir entered the stage. Under the direction of popular Russian conductors such as Victor Zakharchenko, Vladimir Minin and Lev Kontorovich as well as the Artistic Director of INTERKULTUR, Fred Sjöberg (Sweden), Yang Li (China) and the choral expert Michael Barrett (South Africa) the mass choir with about 1500 singers from six different nations presented the “Choral fireworks – Spirit of the world”, a touching and spectacular concert program. Beside songs like “We are the World” and “Jasmin Flower” the official song of the World Choir Games 2016 “One song – one World” was sung. A grandiose closing of the World Choir Games 2016!

Goodbye, choirs in the world, goodbye, Sochi! We see you in Tshwane 2018!
