An epic journey to Riga

Vokalensemble incantanti's biggest fans travel to Riga to see their performance

European Choir Games 2017

During the first Award Ceremony the „vokalensemble incantanti“ from Switzerland was awarded the title „Champions of the European Choir Games“ in the category Youth Choirs. Two of their fans are likely to have cheered exceptionally: Martin & Birgitt Weisskopf.

After they met the choir in April in their home country they learned from the choir’s website that the „vokalensemble incantanti“ would travel to Riga. „Then we thought, we could travel to Riga as well“, they told us, and indeed they followed the group last week to Latvia in an adventurous journey, travelling through five countries altogether: In St. Gallen (Switzerland) they embarked on a train which took them from Zurich to Basel and from there to Hamburg (Germany). With two hours of delay they went on to Copenhagen (Denmark) and from there to Stockholm (Sweden). Then they crossed the Baltic Sea with the ferry and arrived in Riga. They were on the move for two days and still enthusiastic: „We strongly recommend this journey“, Birgitt Weisskopf told us.

But not only incantanti, but also the numerous other choirs of the Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017 & European Choir Games made a strong impression on the Swiss: „In 2019 we will also come to Gothenburg“, Birgitt Weisskopf promised. But next time they think about choosing another way to travel... „I don't know, maybe that time we will arrive riding on camels…“, they said jokingly.

We wish them a pleasant journey home: They will go on the same trip again next week travelling back to Switzerland.
