World Championships in mutual exchange
Sports and cultural programs are open to the choirs
In July 2011 the 1st World Choir Championships for Youth and Young Adults (WCC/World Choir Championships) and the Grand Prix of Choral Music (GP) take place in Graz, Austria. Almost at the same time national teams from Austria, Canada, France and Japan will meet in the UPC Arena in Graz, because the IFAF World Cup of American Football will be held in the Styrian capital.
INTERKULTUR is working together with the “American Football Bund Österreich” and makes it possible to choirs to make common cause with this sport. Choirs from the native countries will be allowed to sing the various national anthems at the beginning of the match. In addition to this sound activity, participant choirs may get free tickets to the football games and will gather on the bleachers.
Besides choir competition and American football, the city in Styria will be presenting a wide range of cultural activities. Singers will benefit from this, too. The “Universalmuseum Joanneum”, which is celebrating its 200th birthday in 2011, provides a very special offer to participants in the GP and WCC: Youth up to 18 years old and adults get a reduced admission price on presentation of the event badge of WCC and GP.
The respective websites provide more information on American Football and the museum’s calendar of events.
