World Choir Games

U.S. Consul General gets informed

Sympathy for largest choral competition

Last Tuesday Consul General Conrad Tribble and Cultural Consultant of the U.S. Consulate General, Mrs. Dr. Nina Gartz, met Stefan Piendl, INTERKULTUR Secretary General.

The reason for the meeting in the U.S. consulate in Munich was to exchange ideas about the unifying force of music and choral singing in general and the World Choir Games in Cincinnati (Ohio) in particular. The 7th World Choir Games are taking place from July 4 to 14, 2012 for the first time ever in the United States of America. The Bavarian state capital of Munich is twin town of the host city of Cincinnati.

Since 2000 the World Choir Games (WCG), former known as “Choir Olympics”, has been hosted on various continents. The Olympic ideal of bringing together people and nations in peaceful and fair competition is one of the main ideas of the WCG. This competition of amateur choirs also marks the international exchange and friendship between cultures and religions.
Consul general Tribble who himself is a passionate choir singer was very interested and showed great sympathy for this unique event.

So far more than 350 choirs from almost 50 nations are preparing for the competition, roughly 15 000 singers are expected to come to the friendly city in Ohio.

INTERKULTUR is already working on more big events in upcoming years, such as the first American Choir Games.
