Shaoxing

Shaoxing is based on tradition

Cultural metropolis in the south of the Yangtze River Delta

Long history, experience and traditions will shape the World Choir Games. This was mentioned by Yang Jianxin, director of the organisation committee of the 6th WCG and director of the Cultural Department of the Zhejiang Provincial Government after a visit of the venues. He emphasized the importance of the 2500 year history of the city for the upcoming Games. In combination with the long experience of INTERKULTUR in organisation of international choir competitions, the result will be found in an outstanding special artistic level. Not only the opening and closing ceremonies which will be held at the International Conference and Exhibition Centre of China Textile Fair will be coloured by that. Even the smaller competitions and concerts will be reflected in this special ensemble.

As Yang told, there are still ongoing efforts to offer a pleasant stay for all the choirs and groups. The Grand Theatre, the Art Centre of the Opera, the Concert Hall of the Art School, the Concert Hall and the Gymnasium of the University will shine in new splendour in July 2010. The combination of Western and Chinese traditions and experiences is already a strong magnet for people from abroad and the Province of Zhejiang.
