Senators recognize Games

High significance of the World Choir Games

As confirmed in a Senate resolution the high significance of the 2012 World Choir Games (WCG) for Cincinnati has been recognized even nine month before the opening event. In the local press Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown expressed their thoughts about the global significance and the positive impact for Cincinnati as host city for the WCG as follows:

“Cincinnati’s vibrant arts community will be on a world stage this summer during the World Choir Games,” Brown said. “From Cincinnati’s Music Hall to Union Terminal to the Riverfront, visitors from around the world will realize that the Queen City isn’t just a gateway to America’s west – Cincinnati is an open-door to the best of American culture, hospitality, and spirit.”

The World Choir Games, the “Olympic Games of Choral Music” helps to “increase global cultural understanding through singing in peaceful competition” the resolution says and continues, “it is appropriate to designate July 2012 as World Choir Games Month in the United States of America”.

The World Choir Games is held every two years on different continents. Cincinnati is the first city in the United States to host the event. Many choirs from around the world are expected to compete in a total of 23 categories between July 4 and 14, 2012.
Registration is still open.
