WCG in Latvia

Riga 2014

You need to go there!

What is it INTERKULTUR and more than 350 choirs are currently thinking about: the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati in July, you might say. However, the host of the 2014 World Choir Games (WCG) has already been announced, too, and was recently visited by our colleagues from Cincinnati. Lori Lobsiger, Director North American Markets and Kim Mann, U.S. Artistic Coordinator Chorus Operations are endlessly excited about the city of Riga (Latvia).

“Riga! What a great city! In my first and only visit to Latvia, I knew within minutes the city is definitely a destination to re-visit. Cobblestone streets, outdoor cafes, parks in bloom, arts and sculpture dotted throughout, great music at every turn, a nation entrenched in choral singing, friendly people, and beautiful summer climate abuzz with activity...what’s not to love about Riga?”, they say highly impressed.

Their enthusiasm still grows when they’re talking about the Open Air amphitheater that accommodated tens of thousands of singers who peacefully protested to gain political freedom and where the Latvian Song and Dance Festival has been taking place since 1873. The power of choral music was a fervent voice around the globe, and nowhere greater than Latvia!

The World Choir Games 2014 is a new destination for all choirs of the world – “We can’t wait to sing in Riga!” say the U.S. representatives in duet.

The 8th World Choir Games are held from July 9 to 19, 2014 in Riga, Latvia.

INTERKULTUR representatives send their greetings from Riga to Cincinnati.
