Promotion of World Choir Games 2014 starts
Latvian Voices performed live in Riga
On August 16 the European Capital of Culture creative information space, the so called "Esplanade 2014", was opened in Riga, Latvia. During this media and community event the "Latvian Voices" performed live the official song of the World Choir Games 2014 in Riga. “My Song” is composed by the important Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds. The choir’s performance was supported by the famous Latvian singer Intars Busulis. The Latvian Voices are Champions of this year’s 7th World Choir Games in Cincinnati USA.
The opening of “Esplanade 2014”was used for official announcements about new activities around the events of Riga Capital of Culture 2014. It will be open every day until September 20, 2012.
“Esplanade 2014” is a free public place where workshops, movie nights and "Riga 2014" cultural projects will be held, some of which are linking to the World Choir Games (WCG) as well. To learn more about this event a selection of concert videos from this year’s Games in Cincinnati, USA will be screened. A total of five sections are scheduled yet starting August 23, 2012. The last video session will be on September 20 (7.00 – 8.00 pm).
The official opening event on Thursday was attended by Žaneta Jaundzeme-Grende, Latvian Minister of Culture and the Mayor of Riga, Nil Usakovs and by representatives of business clubs and other organizations from Latvia.
The female choir Latvian Voices has been chosen to be the musical symbol of Riga for the World Choir Games and the European Capital of Culture 2014. The singers will notably support to create and promote the upcoming events in Latvia and abroad.
The 8th World Choir Games return to Europe after 2008, and after being held in the United States (2012) and China (2010).
