Conductor Seminars

Pedagogical offers by INTERKULTUR

Great approval between participants

INTERKULTUR offers more seminars for choir conductors and choirs in the near future. The response after the very successful close of the fifth choir conductor seminar in Shanghai that was held in cooperation with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, is very positive. "We want to come back in any case!", is the unanimous opinion of about 140 participants from various parts of China regarding the offer to organize more seminars. Further dates in China are being planned for October 2011.

Choir directors had taken a full week time and had enthusiastically taken advantage of the intensive training package according to the motto "Into the choral World". It consisted of lessons about Western repertoire, interpretation, voice training, and conducting guidance. The lessons about preparation for a choir competition were of special interest for the Chinese choir directors. They learned, what particular preparations are necessary for a competition to pass an international comparison - such as, e.g., how to choose the repertoire or how judges are working.

The first-hand information was a big help. The speakers were André de Quadros, a renowned conductor and professor (India / USA), the Hungarian condutor Katalin Kiss and Meng Dapeng, Vice President of the Chinese Choral Association. They contributed to INTERKULTUR events as jurors, speakers or even participants and know exactly what comes first, for example, regarding the World Choir Games, the biggest INTERKULTUR competition. The World Choir Games took place in China twice, in the years 2006 and 2010.

"We noticed that the level of the Chinese choirs enormously increased in recent years. The singers and choir directors take every chance to improve their skills, it's impressing!" says Günter Titsch, President of INTERKULTUR. Finally, every participant got an official diploma, in coordination with the Conservatory of Music.

For many participants it's a big honor to be part of the seminar and to learn from these renowned speakers, as for the members of the Mixed Choir of Shanghai Conservatory of Music who didn't want to miss their last performance at the closing concert.

Next to the seminars in China in October there are regular offers as seminars and workshops at current INTERKULTUR competitions.

More information about these events, also from the past, can be found on the INTERKULTUR website soon.
