Symphonie Orchestra will take part

INTERKULTUR representatives had been for talks in Guangzhou over the last few days. Until December 17, a delegation visited the host city of the 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou. The competition, the first one of its kind, will take place in November 2012.

Apart from visiting the competition venues, detailed conversations about the program of the Opening ceremony of the 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships were held. An important result was the official confirmation of Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra to participate in the Opening and to accompany the International Festival Choir at the Closing concert.

INTERKULTUR is happy about this official confirmation. The delegation got a musical picture on site, when it visited a concert of the orchestra on December 14 in Xinghai Concert Hall. The program including Wagner, Strauss, and Beethoven, conducted by Long Yu and played to a capacity crowd, was highly acclaimed by the audience.

More information on the course of the Opening ceremony will be given in March 2012. The official competition song is supposed to be presented then, too. It’s known already that the host city Guangzhou will welcome choirs with a repertoire including different styles of music.
“Traditional and modern styles,” says Xu Bin, Vice director of Administration of Culture of Guangzhou Municipality, “from several regions in China will be heard and seen.” A selection of international and Chinese choirs will be performing as well.
