International Franz Schubert Choir Competition & Festival

"How beautiful you are ..."

Vienna has confirmed its fascination and importance again. In the Votive Church, the event began with a ceremonial opening concert on 12 November. Choirs from Austria, Germany, Norway, Slovenia and Sweden showed their skills for the programme and motivated  the participants and visitors to join in the 26th International Franz Schubert Choir Competition & Festival.

During the competition, the singers convinced with an outstanding artistic level. With a total of 11 category winners they were sure to be tresured by the international jury.
The Special Prize for an outstanding interpretation of Schubert's composition "The Night”, was won by the Polyphonic Choir Coro di Ruda from Italy under the direction of Fabiana Noro. The best score was achieved by the Ars Nova Vocal Ensemble from Hungary, led by Katalin Kiss, with 27.93 points.
The traditional conclusion of the competition and the 100th Event from the series of INTERKULTUR - Events, was formed by the Holy Mess in remembrance of Franz Schubert. Under the leadership of Friedrich Lessky soloists, chorus and orchestra of the Schubert church performed   Franz Schubert's Mass in E-flat Major.
