Highlights in Harz region

Cultural activities without respite

In 2012 the 3rd International Piano Competition “Neue Sterne” (Engl. New Stars) is held in the city of Wernigerode in Harz region in Germany.
Following the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition in July 2011 piano keys will be sounding March 5-11, 2012 in “Kultur- und Kongresszentrum” in Harz.

To realize this project, at the beginning of December 2011 the city of Wernigerode concluded a contract of cooperation with “Freunde jüdischer Kunst und Kultur e.V.” (Association of Friends of Jewish Art and Culture). The international piano competition is planned to be held every two years alternating with the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition.

“This competition has become a treat in recent years and we’re glad to welcome this competition every two years now in Wernigerode. So we have a musical highlight every year alternating with the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition”, says Wernigerode Mayor Peter Gaffert.

The partners’ aim is to give pianists from all around the world the opportunity to be part of an artistic competition, to meet each other and to have a personal communication in the historic atmosphere of the city of Wernigerode. “The cultural life in Saxony-Anhalt and its region is enhanced through these events”, INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch praises and he wishes the organizers success. He’s sure that one can not support enough musical education, especially of young talents.

Since 1999 the city of Wernigerode is a crowd puller for choirs and music groups from around the world, who are especially dedicated to international Folklore.
Due to the big choir parade, many concert in the city and its surroundings as well as the closing ceremony on the market square there are many melodious moments for everyone.

“Music unites people. A choir festival builds bridges between different cultures and languages,” even said Stephan Dorgerloh, Minister of Culture in Saxony-Anhalt, in July 2011. The next International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival and Competition is held in July 2013. Please find more detailed information on our website.
