A lifelong friendship
"Čarobna frula" from Croatia never missed a World Choir Games
In the year 2000, when the World Choir Games (WCG) was founded, a long lasting friendship begun. Marijan Milić, choirmaster from Croatia, was immediately taken with the idea and told himself: “We have to go there!”
His excitement spilled over to choirs he’s working with: children’s choir “Vrapčići” and youth choir “Čarobna frula”. Today, in 2011, Milić still remembers every single tear of joy and every single shout of delight in 2000, “as if it was only yesterday”.
The first World Choir Games in Linz 2000 were the first ever competition both Vrapčići and Čarobna frula participated in and contributed enthusiastically to. Since this year at least one of the choirs came to every World Choir Games, no matter what city hosted the event – it’s a long friendship with music and with the WCG.
Cincinnati 2012 is a new challenge for the choir “Čarobna frula“, because none of the singers has ever been in the U.S. “We love singing and the experience at a World Choir Games makes us forget all efforts and the hard work in many rehearsals – we’re there, that’s by far the greatest, regardless the final result.” The choir is currently trying to seek sponsors in their country to reduce the costs for the long trip and for the stay in the United States.
For the first time the 7th World Choir Games will be held in the USA. The Opening is on July 4, the American Independence Day, features a great program and will be celebrated in the U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati USA.
