Collaboration with SETV
More choir on screen
Choral music on television tours the world. Following well-known TV formats in Europe and overseas this trend is becoming increasingly popular in Asia as well: Choral music on television is booming. INTERKULTUR extends its collaboration in China.
Apart from the Chinese enthusiasm concerning the U.S. series “Glee” another famous show format dealing with choirs and their music aired in the Chinese television this year. “Last Choir Standing”, originally produced by BBC, was broadcasted from March to July 2011 in Southeast Television (SETV), China.
INTERKULTUR had the chance to help with words and deeds. “A great success for us as a European organization”, says Günter Titsch, President of INTERKULTUR. “We were able to give the audience another insight in our competitions and festivals and attracted more attention for choral music on the international stage.” INTERKULTUR’s commitment across the borders makes it possible to promote future projects with the television station.
Roughly 1000 Chinese choirs of different ages participated in “Last Choir Standing”. The show focused on team spirit and the wish to compete. The competition was enriched and livened up with many elements. This year the show was divided into several episodes and aired in prime time until the finale. The winning choir of the show was involved into an international competition already. In October 2011 “π-Group Choir” from Nanjing attended “In…Canto sul Garda 2011” in Italy and came back home as winner of the “Pop” category.
Bearing in mind the 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships in November 2012 (November 8 to 14, 2012) SETV’s interest in choral music is very important and “deserves support”, says Titsch.
SETV is part of Fujian Media Group, which in itself is part of the Fujian Radio Film and TV Group conglomerate.
