Biography of Günter Titsch

It all started with the association INTERKULTUR that Titsch founded in 1990. His profession as a business and IT consultant brought him together with people in many European countries. Günter Titsch, born in 1946, is a passionate choral singer and is coming from the community with the most choirs in Germany, Pohlheim near Gießen. He found the vocation of his life in the 80’s: singing in a choir brings peace by enthusiasm! Give the choral singer a fascinating competition on an international stage and their music will become an all border transcending connection between their nations.

Titsch was absolutely convinced of the success of this idea from the very start. A first international choir competition in 1988 in Budapest proved to be quite promising. Consistently Titsch expanded his idea and made the choral competitions of INTERKULTUR to one of the biggest and most successful cultural series of events in Europe. The idea of choral Olympics in the year of 2000 based on ancient example became a worldwide success: The World Choir Games took their course around the world. Austria, Korea, Germany and China have been the hosted countries until 2010.

Another highlight should be obtained at the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati (USA). Aside a new series of events is already initiated, the World Choir Championships, the world championship for choirs. It took place in July 2011 in Graz, Austria especially focused on young choirs.

With talent and passion Günter Titsch showed good sense of making the organisation INTERKULTUR in only two decades the first address of choral music. The competition and festivals are worldwide a standard for artificial level and professional organisation of such events. Thanks to Günter Titsch’s and his team’s promotion of the international choral music for over 20 years 5.880 choirs with more than 260.000 active singers from 100 countries took part in the competitions.

But organisation alone is not enough. Günter Titsch, among others member of the board of trustees of the Deutschen Sporthilfe (Foundation German Sports), not only maintains a truly global network of cultural contacts. That he is serious about connection people from all cultures is proven by numerous distinctions he received from a range of countries including the “Kultur Preis Europa” (European Cultural Distinction) and above all his honorary citizenship of the Chinese metropolis Xiamen. This title attracts considerable interest in China. Günter Titsch is one of the first European who Xiamen has proved such a distinction.
