Christian Ljunggren was Artistic Directors and Honorary President of INTERKULTUR and paved the way for the International Choir Competition & Festival Kalamata. In memory of his personality and achievements he was posthumously honored last Friday in Kalamata.

During a Gala Concert at the 2nd International Choir Competition & Festival Kalamata the city’s Mayor Panagiotis Nikas presented a memorial plaque showing a portrait of Christian Ljunggren and alluding to choral music.

Mayor Nikas: “Christian Ljunggren was a multi-faceted personality, combining high artistic qualities to a practical mind. He was also a connoisseur of Greek civilisation and language. […] It is with great grief that we were informed of his passing, as we lost a great friend and an exceptional artist. We dedicate, in his memory, a mixed-technique work of art created by Panagiotis Lamprinidis, the Director of the Arts School of ‘Pharis’, the Municipal Agency for Public Benefit of Kalamata”.

Christian Ljunggren held ties of friendship with Greece for many years. As the Artistic Director of INTERKULTUR he laid the foundation for the International Choir Competition & Festival Kalamata together with INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch.

Despite his serious illness he joined the premiere of the event in October 2015 and conducted the Opening and Closing ceremonies of the event and left a deep impression with participants and guests.

As it was stated by Mayor Nikas his heritage and memory will be continued in Kalamata: “May his memory be everlasting! It is our duty to follow his example and continue to organize this event that Christian Ljunggren founded.”
