Choral concert and sightseeing in Bilbao

Swedish Vocal ensemble discovers the Spanish coastal city

ON STAGE

From April 7-10, 2016 our INTERKULTUR series ON STAGE took place in Bilbao, Spain. On this occasion we want to share to you impressions by the traveling choir from Sweden, Vocal ensemble Nova. A journey with a lot of music and great experiences.

In the first part of the journey the choir met the Spanish lecturer and artistic director of ON STAGE Bilbao, Enrique Azurza. "He taught us some Basque choral songs for the coming concert. He surprised us by telling he had made two years of his studies in Sweden and can speak our language. He knows many of our most famous choral songs which we sang later together with his choir," said Kerstin Stenbeck from Vocal ensemble Nova.

Both choirs from Sweden and Spain performed in a concert in the 'Conservatorio de Musica' in Bilbao. Afterwards the singers joined for a get together dinner in order to learn more about each other. "It was a very nice experience to meet Nova Ensemble and its conductor, and to share with them our songs and traditions," said Enrique Azurza. "They are all very nice people and excellent singers, and the audience enjoyed very much their performance."

Next day the choir joined a sightseeing tour through Bilbao. "Sightseeing was far beyond what we had imagined or expected, five hours walking around in Bilbao with lots of interesting information about people’s living conditions and habits, buildings, history, politics, vegetation and also Basque pintxos and wine. In summary, we are very satisfied with our participation in the On Stage Bilbao and would heartily recommend others to join this choral event next time.“
