An angelic evening

Four choirs from the Czech Republic, Sweden, Slovenia and Indonesia enchanted the audience in the Eglésia de Santa Maria and Sant Nicolau at the traditional Opening Concert of the 5th Canta al mar - Festival Coral Internacional last night.

The church in the small town was filled to capacity and after the first tones of the Slovenian choir "KD Ženski Komorni Zbor Vox Annae" the church was prevailed in absolute silence. With the "Lift your eyes on" from Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Elias, the angels had also entered the church.

The children's choir Motýli Šumperk from the Czech Republic performed as second. About 40 little angels with blue-and-white choral dresses and large blue bows on their blouse sang enthusiastically a demanding repertoire by Antonín Dvořák and Henry Purcell. For the "Když jsi v štěstí" by the Czech composer Jan Facilis Boleslavský the children positioned themselves in the whole church. They used the 8-second hall and therefore provided an unique listening experience.

35 singers of the Härlanda Voces from Sweden, conducted by David Molin, presented, amongst others, a love song composed by Benny Andersson - a singer of the legendary ABBA group - "Vilar glad I din famn". The song was written especially for the wedding of the Swedish Princess Victoria, who got married in 2010 in Stockholm. Eric Whitacre's "Sleep" and all its tonal mannerisms has also been mastered by the Härlanda Voces.

As the last choir of the evening, Diponegoro University Choir from Indonesia entered the stage and presented a challenging program from John Rutter (England) to Steffen Andrew (USA) to Se Enkhbayar (Indonesia). These singers make each concert most memorable!
