A proud anniversary in Vienna

Afterthoughts on the 30th International Franz Schubert Choir Competition

Franz Schubert Choir Competition

1600 singers from 19 nations had travelled to the anniversary event of the Franz Schubert Choir Competition in Vienna at the beginning of May to join the competition or to be part of the big Sing Along Concert with Simon Halsey and the Berlin Radio Choir.

Ralf Eisenbeiß, Artistic Director of the event looks back once again: “30 events since the competition’s beginning in the year 1984 testify the consistency by which the work of the great composer also in the field of choral music was carried from Vienna into the world. Reading the list of countries that have already done the honors in the Schubert Church and the Vienna Concert Hall it causes respect not only due to its number – a total of 45 – but it also proves that choirs from all over the world have taken the opportunity to get to know the work of Schubert. For this purpose the competition was once founded.”

Also the participants, whether in the competition or in the Sing Along Concert with Simon Halsey and the Berlin Radio Choir, give mostly great response to this year’s event. In order to reminisce together we documented the event on the web as far as possible: There’s a video playlist on YouTube, a photo set on flickr, extensive reports on Facebook and not forgetting the reports on our Newsroom.
