Slovenian choir reaches out for Gold in Riga

Carmen Manet – representing Slovenia at the first Eurovision Choir of the Year contest

Choir Games

Italy, Croatia, China and Switzerland - this choir left all these countries with a gold medal and Latvia will be the next stop on the choral map of Carmen Manet. Their name, which means “the song remains”, implies that the singers stayed together even after their high school years.

Founded in 2011, the female chamber choir Carmen Manet was compiled of the best singers - current students and alumna - of the Gimnazija Kranj Girls Choir, when alumna came together for the 200th anniversary celebration of their university. Their first performance was so successful that these young women decided to continue singing together afterwards: Carmen Manet was born and is conducted since its beginning by Primož Kerštanj.

The members of Carmen Manet, who won numerous prizes at international choral competitions, will present two songs on stage: “Ta na Solbici” written by the Slovenian singer Samo Vovk and a piece by Katarina Pustinek Rakar, who even visited the choir during the rehearsals and was thus able to give valuable advice regarding the choir’s performance.

Eurovision Choir of the Year is a new format in the Eurovision event family led by the Eurovision Song Contest. Its first edition will be held in Riga on July 22 and be broadcasted in nine European countries. More information at www.eurovisionchoir.tv.
