A reward for Choral singing

Federal Cross of Merit for Günter Titsch

The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Joachim Gauck, awarded the Order of Merit to Günter Titsch, President of INTERKULTUR. Titsch has been working for international understanding through music and choral singing for twenty years now. Even abroad Germany he is well known. Currently you can meet Titsch in the USA at the World Choir Games (WCG) in Cincinnati, started on July 4, 2012.

The WCG is the largest international choral competition, organized by INTERKULTUR.

"This high recognition honors me personally very much and I am delighted," said Titsch in Cincinnati, "ultimately, this award is dedicated to all of my staff members who have been accompanying me for many years. This applies equally to all of the many choirs, judges, council members, representatives of countries and cities, ministries and embassies, international institutions and to so many guests who have attended our events."

In a greeting to the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati U.S. President Barack Obama highlighted the importance of choral music as a pacifying and unifying element in international competitions like the World Choir Games.

The Order of Merit awards domestic and foreign women and men for political, economic, social and spiritual services as well as any special services to the Federal Republic of Germany, for example earnings from social, charitable and interpersonal fields.

October 2, 2012 the Prime Minister of Hesse Volker Bouffier will pass the Order of Merit at the Hessian State Chancellery in front of selected guests during a reception on the honor of INTERKULTUR President Guenter Titsch.

Since more than 20 years INTERKULTUR has been organizing international choir competitions. Already 5800 choirs with 260,000 singers from 100 countries took part in its competitions.
