A Choral Journey ends

INTERKULTUR mourns for Boris Tevlin

The Professor at Moscow Conservatory, head of the faculty of choral conducting and art director of the Autumn Choral Festival of Moscow Conservatory passed away on July 2 at the age of 81.

Boris Tevlin was born on July 12, 1931. He began his career as a teacher at Moscow Conservatory in 1959 and became head of the Students' Choir of Moscow Conservatory in 1979 which he held until 1991.

Tevlin was also founder of the Mixed Choir of Russian Conductors and Choir Masters in 1987 and great leader of the Russian-American Choir since 1994 and created the Chamber Choir of Moscow Conservatory one year later.

Tevlins master classes were highly coveted by conductors around the world. His support and evaluation as an adjudicator at various competitions, such as Singing Russia, Sounds of Moscow and the World Choir Games were always highly appreciated by both choirs and organizers.

On June 20, Tevlin directed his choir for the last time at the Moscow Conservatory during the Opening of the German Year 2012/2013. Through his work and participation at the World Choir Games in 2000, Russian choirs got more and more confidential to compete in international competitions.

INTERKULTUR mourns for a good friend, who did outstanding work to the whole choral music and its community around the world. We are very thankful for sharing an important time with him.
