Summer concert week in July

Brahms Choir Festival presents plenty of jubilee concerts

Johannes Brahms Int. Choir Festival & Competition

Wernigerode in Germany is looking forward to a high-level international concert week in July. On the occasion of the 10th jubilee event of the International Johannes Brahms Choir Festival & Competition choirs from Belgium, Germany, Denmark, Nigeria, Norway, Poland, China, Hong Kong, Serbia, South Africa, Turkey, USA and Vietnam will come to Wernigerode and shape the festival and competition.

For the first time the opening event on the market square as well as the opening concert in the evening will already take place on Wednesday (July 5) – so there’s more time left for a colorful festival program on the following days. The evening concert will be a “home opener” for the Kammerchor Wernigerode that is going to present parts of their repertoire at the opening concert.

On Thursday, July 6, the famous vocal ensemble amarcord will do the honors at a festive concert dedicated to the event’s jubilee. They meet high expectations since a unique sound, breath-taking homogeneity, a reliable sense of musical style and loads of charm and esprit are the special trademarks of amarcord.

This year the traditional charity concert in the Halberstadt Cathedral will take place on Friday, July 7 (Begins 19:00 h). The Rundfunk Jugendchor Wernigerode as well as international choirs participating in the Brahms festival will be part of it. However, the long-established Folklore concert on the Wernigerode market square to be held on Friday evening remains an integral part of the festival.

Interested choirs have the chance to register by March 13. Also choirs from Wernigerode and its surroundings are still invited to be part of the event and shape one of the plenty Friendship Concerts together with other international singers.
