ON STAGE in Florence 2017

Six choirs meet in beautiful Tuscany

ON STAGE

The ON STAGE series stopped in Florence, Italy, last weekend – May 25-28, 2017 - for a non-competitive festival featuring two international choirs and four Italian choirs.

The choirs had the chance to explore the enchanting Italian city whilst having short performances in its main attractions such as in Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza della Signoria, Orsanmichele church and Piazza della Santa Croce. You can check out their beautiful performances on the ON STAGE Facebook page.

The event’s workshop was held in Santa Maria Maddalena dei Pazzi, a Renaissance-style Roman Catholic church and was conducted by maestro Edoardo Materassi. The choirs had the chance to sing some traditional Tuscan pieces such as Maremma Amara and Fatte la Nanna Coscine di Pollo, both arranged by the maestro and a traditional South African piece Swilo yini. The evening followed with a concert of Sofia Chamber Choir (Sweden) and Mulieris Voces (Italy) in the same church.

The event was concluded beautifully in one of Florence’s most impressive churches, Santo Spirito, which hides a perfection of Brunelleschian architecture inside, along with some fine altarpieces. The concert lasted almost two hours and finalized with all participating choirs singing together the pieces studied during the workshop in an amazing performance.
