Helsingborgs Körfestival: Reading Session with Helene Stureborg

About the refinements of Swedish choral music

Helsingborgs Körfestival

Helsingborg, one of Sweden’s oldest cities, awaits choirs and choral music lovers from May 9 - 13, 2018 to its unique ”Körfestival”. Many competition categories, Evaluation Performances and Individual Coachings as well as intercultural Friendship Concerts will unite singers from all over the world and inspire the audience alike.

Special highlights are the workshops which take place during the festival. One of them will specifically deal with the specialties of "New Swedish Choral Music" and is held by the famous Swedish conductor Helene Stureborg. She studied conducting with Professor Gustaf Sjökvist, Professor Eric Ericson and Professor Kjell Ingebretsen and after several choral interludes she started her own ensemble – the Helene Stureborg’s Chamber Choir – in 2011. Helene Stureborg has also been teaching choral conducting at the Royal University College of Music in Stockholm between 1996 and 2014 and was appointed a member of the Artistic Council of Statens Musikverk in 2014. Helene Stureborg is frequently engaged as a conducting teacher and choral pedagogue at varying courses.

In Helsingborg her workshop will be a reading session including both new publications and old gems from the Swedish treasure chest of music. Well known composers like Andrea Tarrodi, Ulrika Emanuelsson, Ingvar Lidholm, Lars Johan Werle and more unknown names will be examined and participants will also learn about how to find not yet published works through STIM, a Swedish collective management organization for music creators and publishers, and other sights.
