Corfu International Festival & Choir Competition

On the occasion of a conference with the Municipality of Corfu, the Ionian University of Corfu and the Regional Government of the Ionian Islands, INTERKULTUR announced on Monday to continue the Corfu International Festival & Choir Competition. Supported by the Corfu Choir Union, groups from all over the world will visit the capital of the Ionian Islands for the second time from September 12-16, 2018 and will celebrate a Mediterranean feast of choral music.

INTERKULTUR President Günter Titsch expressed his anticipation for the further cooperation: "We are very happy to be able to  live up to the successes of the first Choir Festival on the Ionian island. The first event last year has clearly shown the potential the picturesque island of Corfu has to offer for an international cultural event. Together with our Greek partners, we will once again offer the choirs all over world a highly attractive and culturally important choral stage."

The representatives of the partners - Konstantinos Nikolouzos, Mayor of Corfu, Nicoletta Pandi, Vice Governor of the Ionian Islands and Miranda Caldi, Member of the Ionian University Council - unanimously expressed the chance for the island to host choirs from all over the world and to present the treasures of the island.

In addition to competitions in different categories, there is also the opportunity to sing at a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage at Friendship Concerts and to receive valuable tips in pedagogical programs.

Fred Sjöberg, Artistic Director of the festival is also looking forward to the second edition of the Greek competition: “The 2nd Corfu International Festival & Choir Competition offers international choirs a chance to sing in front of  dreamlike scenery, surrounded by olive trees and colorful villages and to be enchanted by the Mediterranean flair of the island”.

More information about the 2nd Corfu International Festival & Choir Competition will be announced soon.
