Welcome choirs! – Welcome to Reno!

Great atmosphere at the Opening

The second American International Choral Festival (AICF) started in Reno on May 4 at 8:30 p.m. local time. Participants and visitors were musically being welcomed at the Pioneer Center – Welcome!

Bella Voce, Mt. San Antonio College Chamber Singers and Linn-Benton Community College "Blue Light Special" from the U.S. and the Prime Note Ensemble (Saudi-Arabien) as well as the Young Voices of the Adventist University of the Philippines had a great part in the evenings’ success. The choir from the Philippines created a very special atmosphere when it started to perform a piece from the famous U.S. television series “Glee”.

The next highlights are obviously the competitions in the different categories. “The city of Reno and the USA are great hosts”, said project manager Jelena Dannhauer in an interview after the Opening Ceremony. “All choirs are totally excited being here and are looking forward to competitions and workshops”.

On Thursday the juror Aida Swenson (Indonesia) held a workshop about Indonesian choir literature. The Gema Sangkakala Choir and Paduan Suara Mahasiswa Universitas Hasanuddin attended and they made a big contribution to understanding with their performances.

The sought-after highlight is the Grand Prize Competition of the best choirs on Saturday evening. The winner of the second AICF will be qualified directly for The Champions Competition of the 2012 World Choir Games in Cincinnati.

The AICF takes place until May 8, 2011 in Reno-Tahoe and is the 111th event in the INTERKULTUR event series.
