195 nations exist worldwide according to the United Nations and 105 of them have already been represented at an INTERKULTUR event during the past 30 years. Thus it rarely happens that a new nation enters one of the major choir competitions and festivals of INTERKULTUR, but this year we are very happy to welcome the land of the Kilimanjaro and the Massai for its debut on our stages: The Isamilo Children's Choir represents Tanzania and travels over 9.000 km to join the 7th International Anton Bruckner Choir Competition and Festival, which takes place from June 19 - 23, 2019 in Linz, Austria.

The choir is comprised of students from the Isamilo International School Mwanza, a long-established British international school on the shores of Lake Victoria in Tanzania's second largest city. The school is proud of its diverse and unified community, which is reflected in the composition of the choir: 8 nations, Tanzania, Kenya, India, Ghana, England, Canada and the United States, sing in this ensemble, which consists of almost 200 students, and 21 of them will accept the challenge in Linz 2019 and compete in the popular category Children’s Choirs.

The choir was started in 2015 by conductor Noah Odera for primary and secondary students. The singers primarily perform music from African cultures and also enjoy experimenting with Italian opera and American pop music. Last year the choir had the opportunity to perform at an international choir festival in Prague, and is now greatly looking forward to the experience of visiting and performing in Austria.
