Sri Lanka is sometimes considered to be the “world’s most beautiful island” and elsewhere it’s even named “India for beginners”. Whether you agree or not, there’s no doubt that Sri Lanka is a stunning place and full of exciting travel experiences and variety.

Sri Lanka’s wildlife, for example, should not be missed when visiting the peninsula state. There are countless national parks to protect the variety of nature on the island – in fact 13 % of Sri Lanka’s ground is conserved as national parks, reserves, sanctuaries and jungle corridors. If you want to see and experience animals in their natural environment, you should definitely go on a safari. It will make you see elephants, leopards, crocodiles, birds and more at close range.

If you’re more interested in ancient ruins and the life of former peoples, please visit the rock fortress Sigiriya – also known as “Lion Rock”. It is, by the way, only one of Sri Lanka’s totally eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Sigiriya is listed as one of the best preserved examples of ancient urban planning and you will see age-old relicts from ancient times around almost every corner – like a man-made moat, the famous Gardens of Sigiriya, and remnants of frescos that arrayed almost the whole Western side of the rock once.

Sri Lanka is a multi-religious society, but Buddhism is one of the most important religions for the people. Thus, there are many temples to see and witness people in exercise of their religion. The temple Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth) in the city of Kandy is especially known for the relic of the tooth of the historic Buddha Siddhartha Gautama it houses. In the belief of people this tooth conserves the spiritual power of Buddha and is accordingly worshipped.

Apart from safari, history and religion Sri Lanka is also a paradise for surfers, divers and all other kinds of water sports. Further the island’s beautiful and endless beaches invite travelers and tourists to get a rest and enjoy the all-year warm and sunny weather.

By the way, the Sri Lanka covers only an area of around 65,000 square kilometers, so nearly all sights and destinations are easy to reach in short travel distance.
