Gauteng’s best kept secret

An insiders’ tip: Dinokeng Game Reserve

World Choir Games 2018

After a week full of meetings to push forward preparations for the World Choir Games 2018 in Tshwane, it’s time to introduce a famous and worth-visiting tourist spot in the city’s surroundings: Welcome to the Dinokeng Game Reserve.

Opened in September 2011 this reserve is one of Gauteng’s best kept secrets and still a real insiders’ tip. A visit provides the unique chance to go on safari and see amazing wild life in a natural environment. A very relaxing experience just a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of Tshwane!

Only a 40 minutes’ drive from Pretoria the Dinokeng Game Reserve is the first game reserve in the province of Gauteng that hosts the Big 5 (lion, leopard, buffalo, rhinoceros and elephant) next to an urbanized area. Along with these popular big animals there are also cheetahs, giraffes and hyenas living in the park, which additionally has an abundance of birdlife and an indigenous flora. Especially due to the great number of rivers that float through the area and the high number of wetlands this is the best environment for outstanding natural experiences.

Its rivers gave also the name to the Dinokeng Game Reserve which translates as “place of rivers” actually. The fact that free-roaming lions and elephants are living here since more than 100 years is a great success and makes the game reserve a popular hot spot for tourists and local residents.
