Elina Garanca will sing one choir’s praise in Riga

The Latvian mezzo-soprano is part of the jury of the ”Eurovision Choir of the Year” TV-Show

The European Broadcasting Union, organizer of the Eurovision Song Contest, added a new member to its musical TV family: The “Eurovision Choir of the Year” TV Show which features 9 choirs from Latvia, Germany, Slovenia, Hungary, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Wales and Austria. These choirs will compete in a TV Show for their musical victory and on their way they will be judged by a jury of three international experts. Besides the English composer John Rutter and the Swiss conductor Nicolas Fink, Latvian mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča will complete this board.

The triple ECHO Klassik Award-winner is not only famous for breathing new life into major opera and concert parts such as Carmen, Cosi fan tutte, and Der Rosenkavalier, but also for appearing frequently in documentaries and talk shows. Elīna Garanča was born into a musical family in Riga, Latvia and studied at the Latvian Academy of Music before continuing her studies in Vienna and the United States. In 2003 she managed her international breakthrough at the Salzburg Festival as Annio in “La clemenza di Tito” and regularly takes the center stage of the world’s leading opera houses, such as the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Bavarian State Opera, and Vienna State Opera.

She achieved numerous awards such as the award “Österreichische Kammersängerin”, the “European Cultural Award for Music” and is an artist of the Deutsche Grammophon Gesellschaft; moreover she cooperated with the Russian soprano Anna Netrebko on recordings as well as the German TV show “Opera Gala of the Stars” and is now looking forward to a new challenge as a juror of the ”Eurovision Choir of the Year”.
