Sing`n`joy Manila 2013
Philippine International Choir Competition
December 11 – 15, 2013 | Manila, Philippines
INTERKULTUR in collaboration with Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) and the Philippine Choral Directors Association (PCDA) presented SING’N’JOY MANILA 2013. The international choir competition was held from December 11 to 15, 2013 in the ALIW Theatre and STAR Theatre on Sotto Street, near Roxas Boulevard and Manila Bay as well as the Shrine of Jesus Church close to the Mall of Asia.
Following the tradition of MBC´s annual national choir competition in December, in the year 2013 the event went international for the first time. Regional qualification rounds for Philippine choirs were held by MBC in autumn throughout the archipelago.
The main focus of the event was categories like Show Choirs, Pop & Jazz, Gospel & Spiritual and Folklore but the stage was also prepared for Children’s- and Youth Choirs as well as for Sacred Music.
With rise of the high quality choral singing and the countrywide proliferation of choral groups in all sectors of society choral music in the Philippines has dramatically expanded during the last thirty years. The most outstanding example of that development are THE PHILIPPINE MADRIGAL SINGERS, one of the most successful choirs worldwide, having consistently won top prizes in most of the world’s prestigious choral competitions. Nowadays the Philippines are worldwide known as one of the leading choral nations.
