A WORLD OF SINGING

Seminars during the 6th World Choir Games in Shaoxing

These seminars will present a unique opportunity to learn about choral music and choral methods by internationally renowned lecturers from all over the world. There will be choirs from the World Choir Games singing and explaining different types of choral music.

The seminars take place from 4.00 pm to 5.30 pm in Shaoxing XianHeng Hotel, LuXun Middle Road, on the following days: July 17,18,19,23,24,25

Saturday, July 17

“The singing voice”

This particular seminar will be a meeting point for those interested in the singing voice, its problems and opportunities. Mr. Branko Stark from Croatia will lead the seminar. He just arranged a big international conference on the singing voice in his home country. You will also meet Prof. Thomas Caplin from Norway. He has written books on choral conducting and is a well known international lecturer and conductor. Mr Romans Vanags from the great singing country Latvia will also give a presentation. You will also hear choirs illustrating the theme of the seminar – the singing voice.

Sunday, July 18

“Singing a multicultural experience”

This particular seminar will be a meeting point for those interested folklore choral music from different parts of the world.. Prof Andre de Quadros will lead this session and will demonstrate different singing styles with the help of choirs from different parts of the world. Prof. Daniel Garavano from Argentina will tell about the special way of performing South American music.

Monday, July 19

“Singing with children”

This particular seminar will be a meeting point for those interested in children choirs. Mrs Zimfira Poloz, well-known conductor from Canada will lead the seminar. Prof. Katalin Kiss will tell about the strong children choir tradition and the education for singers in her home country Hungary. Mrs Susanna Saw will talk about her work with children in Malaysia. Children choirs will join as demonstration choirs.

Friday, July 23

“Singing swinging”

This particular seminar will be a meeting point for those interested in rhythmic music. Johan Rooze, well-known jazz choir conductor from the Netherlands, chairs it. There will choirs from the event as demonstration choirs.

Saturday, July 24

“The singing teenager in our choirs”

This particular seminar will be a meeting point for those interested how to get young people interested in singing in choirs and what repertoire to choose. Mrs Aida Swenson from Indonesia, whose youth choir have toured all around the world, chairs the seminar. Your will also listen to the famous Danish conductor Steen Lindholm to hear about Scandinavian approach to youth choirs. Youth choirs from the World Choir Games will be used as demonstration choirs.

“Welcome to USA – a singing country”

This particular seminar will be a meeting point for those interested American choral music. The next World Symposium will take place in USA – so it good to use the time to learn about music from this great choral nation. Three very renowned lecturers and conductors will lead the seminar. Prof Earl Rivers is the head of the choral department in the conservatory of Cincinnati, the host city of WCG 2012. Dr. Jerry McCoy and Dr. Tim Sharp are well-known American conductors, both engaged in the American Conductors Association as president respectively General director.
