Conditions of Participation
All non-professional youth orchestras are welcome to take part. Following orchestras may take part. High level orchestras will be performing in a special category.

Possibilities of Participation
- one or more concerts in Shaoxing
- possibility to play at the World Expo in Shanghai
- possibility to organise a Chinese tour on request
- present your orchestra/institute during conferences
- broadcast on chinese television
Organisation and Artistic Requirements
1. Concerts
One or more performances are planned within the City of Shaoxing. Modern concert halls for 500 to 3,000 audience
are available. The group will be free to choose this option. It is sufficient to send the standard application.
The other options - performing at the EXPO Shanghai, other concert opportunities in China and possible performance
on Chinese television - require the following:
- the artistic committee decides after the application if an orchestra may perform
- the application for the aforementioned options requires to send a detailed presentation (artistic vita of the orchestra, CD, DVD, references if available)
2. Concert duration
All orchestras should be prepared to perform a 60 minutes concert as well as a concert with two parts of 45 minutes
each.
3. Dates
The 1st World Youth Orchestra Festival will be held from 21st to the 26th of July 2010.
4. Programme
The announcement is deliberately designed to give each orchestra the chance to express its own traditions and
strengths. A programme is expected that reflects the musical characteristics of the different countries.
The programme is free except the obligation to perform at least one work from a national composer of the 20th or
21st century. Orchestras may perform with soloists, soloists ensembles or even with a choir. Works may be partially
performed (single movements) to fit into the set duration.
New works representing a country’s musical culture, from classical to contemporary, traditional to folk music are
very welcome but not mandatory.
5. Conferences
Every orchestra/institution has the opportunity to present itself through conferences, promoting its activities and strengths to the international and Chinese audiences.
