Greeting Obama

U.S. President sends message to the worldwide choir community

The power of arts and music "brings us together, helping us reflect upon who we are, where we have come from, and what lies ahead".

This is the core of a greeting the U.S. President Barack Obama sent to choir singers around the world on the occasion of the World Choir Games in Shaoxing. The message was delivered in written and was read out at the closing event of the 6th World Choir Games in front of thousands of actors in the Chinese city. Arts and Music, the President of the United States of America writes, are able to transcend "languages, cultures and borders". From the sounds of a symphony to the echoes of a choir musical expression takes myriad forms, the message continues. With regard to the World Choir Games Obama stresses that musicians came together "to exchange ideas and styles and share in the artistic vibrancy born from diverse experiences and traditions. Their sounds have stirred countless audiences and fostered a deep appreciation for music that connects us all. Please accept my best wishes as you lift up your voices in song".

Cincinnati as host city of the 7th World Choir Games presented itself with an American Evening in Shaoxing. A showcase dedicated to music, dance and acrobats has whetted appetite for the city in the U.S. state of Ohio. Via video message the U.S. ambassador in Peking, Jon Huntsman, brought greetings to the participating vocal ensembles in Shaoxing and invited them to visit Cincinnati in 2012.
